What we collect
Wakenyatbay (wakenyatbay.ca) collects only what you submit directly through forms on this site — your name, email, phone number, and any details, photos or files you include in messages, membership signups, or community submissions.
Community submissions sent through /share are stored privately on our hosting provider (Vercel) so our team can review them. We never publish your email or phone number unless you put them in the details you want listed.
Membership signups, newsletter signups, and other messages sent through the forms are stored privately on Vercel too, so we can keep a list and write back.
- A newsletter address is kept once. If you sign up again, we keep the first date and the latest one.
- If you sign up for the newsletter on its own, you are not on the list until you tap the confirmation link we email you.
- Joining Wakenyatbay includes our monthly community newsletter, so members are added to it when they join.
- We do not sell that list. Our email service, Resend, sends the newsletter for us and holds the list only to do that.
How we use it
- To respond to your message or membership application.
- To send you our monthly community newsletter, if you sign up for it or join Wakenyatbay. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing doesn't end your membership.
- To list events, businesses, or stories you've submitted (only with your consent).
Who has access
The people who run Wakenyatbay. We do not sell, share, or trade your information. Vercel and Resend, which store and send it for us, are US companies, so your details may be stored outside Canada.
Tools we use
- Resend — to send emails: confirmations, replies and the monthly newsletter
- Vercel Analytics — privacy-respecting page analytics, no cookies
- Vercel — hosts the site and privately stores form signups and community submissions
- Cloudflare Turnstile — checks that the share form and the contact, membership and newsletter forms are sent by a person, not a bot
- Google Analytics 4 — counts visits and popular pages, only if you accept cookies (see below)
Cookies
The first time you visit, we ask whether Google Analytics may set cookies. If you choose No thanks, it stores no cookies on your device. Ads features are always off, and we never sell your data. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Vercel Analytics counts page views without cookies. Your browser also remembers your cookie choice and any unsent draft of a community submission; neither leaves your device.
Your rights
Email info@wakenyatbay.ca any time to access, correct, or delete your information.
Housing listings
Our Nyumba rentals guide links to public rental ads on other sites. For each one we show only basic facts: the type of unit, the neighbourhood, the rent, what's included, and when we checked it.
We never show a street number, photos, the ad's own text, or a landlord's name, phone number or email. Each row comes down by itself 7 days after we last check it.
A landlord or owner who wants their ad off the guide can email info@wakenyatbay.ca, and we'll remove it the same day.
If you offer your own room or unit through /share, nothing is published until you've agreed in writing.
- We ask for the street address so we can check the place is real, and keep it private.
- We show the neighbourhood, never your address, plus the one phone number or email you give us for renters, so they can contact you directly. We don't pass messages along.
- The listing comes down after 30 days or as soon as you tell us it's rented.
Bereavement notices
We don't publish obituaries or bereavement notices at the moment. If we start, a notice will only go up with the family's clear consent, and we will remove it at any family member's request.
