About

About Wakenyatbay, the Kenyan community in Thunder Bay Nyumbani mbali na nyumbani

Home, away from home.

Wakenyatbay helps Kenyans in Thunder Bay and across Canada feel at home, informed and connected, so no one far from home figures it out alone.

Why we do this

When you move to a small northern city from Kenya, the help you need is often scattered across WhatsApp groups, word of mouth and out-of-date websites. We started Wakenyatbay to bring it all into one trusted, current place: the news from home, the guides for here, and the people who make both feel close.

Umoja ni nguvu — together we're stronger, wherever we've landed.

Our values

Accurate and current

We check what we publish and keep it up to date.

Harambee spirit

We show up for each other in celebration and in loss.

Small places matter

Thunder Bay and the north deserve the same attention as the big cities.

Culture for the next generation

We keep our languages, food and stories alive for our children.

We stay connected to Kenya while building our lives in Canada.
